Magazine Analysis

The Headline (Main Story) is very obvious as it has a large image of Kanye West in the centre of the cover , this draws attention to the cover as he is a well known face in the music industry. it also has in large bold text this headline, again making it clear that this is the main story.
There are also other articles on advertised on the cover, however the text is not as big as the text for the main story.
Pugs are used on the cover of this magazine, there is a small logo in the bottom right hand corner of the page related to the magazine or its content, there is also a web address at the bottom left of the page, this is a web address for "VIBE".
Buzz words are used on this cover, "EXCLUSIVE", this gets the attention of the reader as it is in large bold text and is in a different coloured font to the house style font, therefore it stands out.
This Magazine is a Music & Entertainment magazine, it often feature R&B and Hip-Hop artists. This makes it appealing to people who like these particular genres and the artists featured in the magazine. The target age group is more towards the teenage category, as these particular genres are more popular with this age group. it is aimed at both genders as the contents of the magazine features male and female artists/actors.

Music Genres
A music genre is a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions, Music can be divided into different genres in several ways.The most common genres are ones such as: Hip Hop, Rock, Classical, Rap, R&B and Pop.
Rap
Rap is rooted in the pain of black-American experience which began with slavery. While slaves were working in the fields, they would often sing. Part of the songs they sang were "call and answer" selections. One leader would call out part of the song and the rest of the slaves would answer with the next line.Biggie Smalls |
Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap is a subgenre of hip hop music that evolved from "Rap", It reflects urban crime and the violent lifestyles of inner-city youths.The genre was introduced in the mid-1980s by rappers such as Schoolly D and Ice-T, and was popularised in the later part of the 1980s by groups like N.W.A. After the attention that Ice-T and N.W.A attracted in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Although surrounded by controversy Gangsta rap became the most commercially lucrative subgenre of hip hop. Some gangsta rappers have been associated, or allegedly have ties with the gangs as large as the Bloods and Crips.
Artists include Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E (Who is often referred to the Godfather of Gangsta Rap)

Rap has evolved from times as early as the slave trade and from Hip Hop, Becoming its own genre creating artists such as Tupac, Biggie Smalls and then Gangsta Rap which created N.W.A. Although being around for such a long time it is still very popular in today's society.
